Can’t get enough of Blueberry Cheesecake

Hello Everyone! I finally was able to get my Blueberry Cheesecake from Captain’s Mix and Magic and it was a treat!

The cake sells for P450 (pretty affordable but so yummy). However, unlike others, this is only a 6 inch round cake enough for 10 slices.

I’ve tasted quite a lot of Blueberry Cheesecakes, and most of them has a creamy cake like consistency, which I always look for in this particular cake. For Captain Mix and Magic, I was a bit surprised that the consistency is somewhat like a “refrigerator cake”. Creamy, and what a cheesecake should taste like. Personally, I would prefer a cake like consistency. By far, this is my second favorite, because it is so light that I can’t stop getting more.

Overall, it was well worth my money spent! will definitely order next time.

Captain’s Mix and Magic: Cakes Are Meant To Be EATEN:

Between a chocolate chip cookie and a oatmeal cookie, I would choose chocolate cookie and stay away from the oatmeal kind. Aside from having a sweet tooth, I find most oatmeal cookie too hard, too dry or too healthy for my liking. I am not a fan of oatmeal cookies EVER! But sometimes, I tend to eat my own words, more often than not as M says :)

In my previous post, I mentioned that we had a gaming session last night, and if you remember in Lady E’s Clinique birthday last February, it was our good friend Joy who made the cupcakes. The cupcakes were moist and the kind of chocolate I can eat. Her mantra, Cakes are meant to be eaten. True to her word, it is!

Anyway, last night, she was baking oatmeal cookies, of course I couldn’t help take a peek, and it smelled yummy. She then offered us freshly baked oatmeal cookies, it didn’t look like the hard kind and when I took a bite, it was super moist. I’m a sucker for moist cakes and cookies. It was also yummy too. I guess the word, moist is enough to convince you and specially me. The dough somewhat tastes like cookie dough, which is why I enjoyed it more in every bite.

Martin swears by her chocolate éclair (too bad I wasn’t able to try that). I think M enjoyed the oatmeal cookie too much, that he made sure that we did not leave her take home goodies (haha).

Captain’s Mix and Magic also made my surprise birthday Hello kitty cake

Food talk: Desserts–Mcdonald’s Big Blast

When my sister mentioned that Mcdonald’s came up with “new” sundaes, the foodie in me wanted to try it. I love their caramel sundae! M and I had dinner last night near our place, originally we wanted to eat at Mang Inasal but parking was a pain, mcdo was the “best” option at that time. Burger and fries are not my kind of dinner. Anyway, for your viewing pleasure…

Let’s face it, there is nothing really new about it since there are no new exciting flavors to try, they just made everything BIGGER and more sinful! But sometimes, being sinful once in a while is good too. As far as I can remember, all of them sells for P40 each. M tried the double hot fudge, I tried the DUO (caramel and hot fudge).

There was one thing that we both noticed though, the consistency of the ice cream changed. It wasn’t as milky as before, it appears that it has more ice than milk. I’m not sure if it’s the same with other branches, give me a shout out if you experience the same. Never the less, it did not fail my sweet tooth!

Have you tried this? I would like to know :)

     Till then!

Food talk: Banoffee Pie at Starbucks

If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog, you know by now that I have a sweet tooth. For my weekend food trip with M, we stayed at Starbuck’s, Glorietta while waiting for our friends. The branch at Glorietta had a couple of cakes available and one of which is their Banoffee pie. MY FAVE! Bananas, toffee, chocolate and cream are a match made in heaven.

Banoffee pie:

Is an English pastry based dessert, made from bananas, toffee from boiled condensed milk, cream, either on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter.

Starbuck’s banoffee pie had crumbled biscuits and butter as crust, then layered with bananas with just the right sweetness and texture. And then drizzled with toffee (which tasted like caramel), and chocolate, topped with cream. Instead of serving a slice, they have individual servings for each.

I haven’t tasted a lot of Banoffee pie’s to compare with, they say Banapple has the best cakes and pie’s. I know Starbuck’s doesn’t make their own cakes or pie’s, they get theirs from a supplier (correct me if I’m wrong), but whoever made this, I enjoyed every piece of it. For the price, well, most cakes from Starbuck’s costs more than P120+, this was the “cheapest”.

PROS:

  • Crust was just right, tasted like regular ground biscuits
  • Buttery and nutty crumbled crust
  • Large chunks of bananas
  • Generous amount of caramel, whipped cream and chocolate syrup

CONS:

  • Can be too sweet for others

This review may not be as comprehensive as I want it to be, since I haven’t really tried other banoffee pie’s to compare with, but for the record, if you’re just into something sweet and likes to keep it simple, this won’t disappoint.

Food review: Razon’s halo-halo

Hey everyone, how are you all doing? Tonight’s shift made me and my colleagues a little bit wary because of the mild earthquake. Did you feel it?

Anyway, here’s a quick post on a food review for the week. I met up with my  friend  S the other day to go to M’s house. She was running a little late so I decided to either eat or drink something cold at Galleria (our meet-up place), since I’ve been reading raves about Razon’s halo-halo, I decided to give it a try too. Razon’s can be found at Ronbinson’s Galleria, ground floor at the food court. You can have a glass of halo-halo for P95.

DSCN3091

What I like about it is the shaved ice, not like the usual chunks of big ice that are usually used. I’m not a huge fan of halo-halo really, specially with all those fillings like, beans and etc. So I just usually order mais con yelo or saba con yelo (sweet corn, sweet bananas). Good thing, Razon’s is different.

I liked it, but halfway through, I wasn’t able to finish it. I felt umay, I don’t know why. There was nothing special about it to rave about, it was just okay for me.

Razon’s halo-halo, topped with leche flan, sweet bananas, macapuno and something else. It was just okay, but it sure helped beat the hot weather that day.

  Till then!

Bake and Churn - ice cream cake

Happy Friday to all! Man, I’m feeling so drowsy right now because I’m having the sniffles since last night. For today, I found out an interesting store, which I always see most of the time when I’m in Robinson’s Galleria but never paid attention to it, until I saw from certified foodies's post about it. The Bake and Churn kiosk, which you can find mostly in Robinson’s Malls. I have never tried an ice cream cake, which we all know is very expensive and so when I came across it I did not hesitate to try it out. Which was weird since I always pass by their kiosk, haha. Wasn’t able to take pictures of their stall though. Here’s what I ordered

Ube Ice cream cake for P40 per slice

The ones available with per slice cakes are the rolls which are choco, mocha and ube. The cake’s texture wasn’t too sweet which is good, the ice cream tasted like ube, but has a different texture compared to regular ice cream (in a good way), it was creamy and not too sweet too. Well I know I am trying to loose weight but it was just one time, just to see what’s it about and if it’s a worth buy which it is. I sure did enjoy my very first ice cream cake at Bake and Churn, will definitely buy one for the BF since he loves ice cream and chocolate cake.

Till then!
