Crazy for sashimi~ which is the best?

One of my dear follower/readers asked me a good question in my blog post dining out with john and yoko, on which restaurants serves the best sashimi’s. BF and I have dined at Teriyaki Boy, Kimono ken and John and yoko. She asked which among the three serves a better sashimi. Here are pictures for you to compare, the difference of each restaurant.

  Teriyaki boy

terriyaki boy

                                   Salmon sashimi P195 for P7pcs.

   Kimono Ken

kimono ken-2 kimono ken-3                           Shake Sashimi (salmon) P200 for 10pcs

And last but not the least, John and Yoko

  john and yoko

Now forgive me I can’t provide the price since we ate at John and Yoko as a group and had the group platter, but If I remember it right the tuna sashimi costs P168 for P7pcs.

john and yoko-2

You can definitely tell the difference for each salmon sashimi’s served. Teriyaki boy had a firmer texture and none of the brown part (which I’m not sure if it’s some sort of fatty part of the fish or what), like the one at kimono ken *please refer to images above.

    Teriyaki Boy

    good points:

  •      firm in texture
  •      no brown part
  •      i liked how it looked like compared to kimono ken (presentation)
  •      for a fast food japanese restaurant, the quality is really good.

       Kimono Ken

      good points:

  •       for the price you get more pieces of salmon sashimi
  •       for taste, I can tell it’s still fresh but it just seemed fatty – or it may just be me.
  •        texture wise, very soft thin slices
  •        fairly priced

         bad points:

  •    the brown part doesn’t look appealing

       John and Yoko

        good points:

  •         taste’s a wee bit better than kimono ken
  •         taste’s like a regular salmon sashimi would taste like
  •         tuna sashimi was superiorly fresh, as you can see in the photo. That’s the kind of color you are looking for when buying fresh tuna in the market.

       In conclusion…

Kitty says:  Among the three restaurants, my favorite for salmon sashimi would definitely be Teriyaki boy.

Of course, there are far more better restaurants that serves salmon sashimi. But among the three, it has to be teriyaki boy surprisingly. Then again, this is my opinion, it could be different from yours.

Thanks Salmoncat for asking me that question.

How about you? where’s the best salmon sashimi you’ve dined at? I’m curious, and just because I love it a lot! Do share ^_^

Till then!

Dining out with John and Yoko

Our friend R, recommended we try John and Yoko at Greenbelt, it’s actually my first time.

DSCN1899 DSCN1900

I know this place is owned by celebrity Marvin Agustin, correct me if I’m wrong. Ambiance wise was definitely chic and modern.

For ice tea, they have 3 different kinds, green, blue and red ice tea which costs P110 bottomless. I forgot which one is the calamansi and so on, but the red ice tea was fairly okay.

For our food, since we are 8 people our friend suggested we try the group platter, the only group platter that I remembered which we ordered is the: there goes my diet, which costs around P1500+ there’s another one, but I forgot the name, price was almost the same. I say, it’s worth it for a group. Presentation wise, it was unique.

This is the first platter with different angles. I was far from this platter so I asked M to take a picture.
I wasn’t able to take a picture of the 2nd platter which was near me, haha! coincidence huh? So here’s a few photos I took

The yakisoba was good, it was on the sweet side. I love the chorizo on top, definitely worthy of 2nd order. The BF and his best friend J, described it as, parang ulam, kulang na lang kanin. Haha!

DSCN1917

Can you see how pink and fresh the tuna sashimi looks? it definitely tastes fresher (probably a higher grade of tuna), I can see there’s no litid or white parts in between the fish which is good.

DSCN1918 DSCN1919

I wanted to stay more for crazy and interesting chit chats with them, but sadly, I have work. Until next time.
Before I forget, our total bill cost us P3000 divided by 8 = 375.

While eating we saw the celebrity couple Ms. Anna bell Rama and his Husband Mr. Gutierrez, it was a sight. Could’ve been more interesting if Ms. Ruffa was there, hehe. The prices of John and Yoko was okay, it’s a good place for celebrations, that is if it’s only the BF and me who will be dining there.

I don’t get it why the meat that was served to us was a little warm, the only hot food I ate was the rice. But no complaints really, everything tasted just okay, but then there are other things to try in the menu. Definitely, do try out their group platter, it’s so sulit.

Till then!

Food review: Kimono Ken at MOA

Food review…

Being in MOA (SM Mall of asia), there are quite a lot of food choices to choose from. BF and I had 2 options, Italian and Japanese. We saw the Sakae sushi buffet, it looked tempting, BF was almost too tempted to try it out, what made it fun was the conveyer belt I suppose, but I said if we could look around to have more options. Then we came across Kimono Ken, I got hooked when I saw the Mayo asparagus pasta, and so we did.

It has a nice quaint ambiance, and good that they have a washroom inside the restaurant. The prices seemed relatively affordable too. Here’s what we had.

First of all, let me tell you about their service, the crew was pretty fast and we didn’t have to wait for more than 5mins for both the sushi’s to arrive, then around 3mins our main course arrived. We just had their house water since they didn’t have bottomless ice tea.

The salmon sushi was scrumptious, as well as the sushi moriawase. I did not, nor will EVER try the unagi (sea urchin EVER in my life), but BF was very adventurous to try it. I was laughing the whole time he was trying to chew it, his face did not look so pleasant at all and then he says “I will never try that ever again!” ( I was laughing my ass off), haha! I just said, “see I told you it’s gross, haha! no offense to those who eat this stuff though, sorry. The moriawase came with a free miso soup but BF was not impressed, it tasted bland as he describes.

He loved his Gyudon beef and just looking at it, it does look delicious. all pure beef no fatty parts included. I was actually curious and he is right, it was yummy, definitely a recommend in the restaurant. On to my pasta, it was really yummy, the taste of the mayo was a little bit strong, but it had that unique twist for a pasta. Very creamy, huge chunks of bacon and I’m pretty sure fattening because of the mayonnaise, still it’s good.

The beef terriyaki had the least impression. All our main courses arrived HOT! but this one seemed to be warm, it also tasted bland. We hardly touched this and we still had a few sushi’s left for take-out, which I will be giving to my 2 boys, since it’s Piccolo’s birthday yesterday. He just turned 2 years old.

Food was good, the place was jam packed too, service was fast and overall we spent P1148.28 including SC 6.0% Not bad I say.

I definitely recommend this place to all the japanese foodies out there.

  Till then!

Food review: Teriyaki boy + dinner date

Before heading for work yesterday, I watched Jamie Oliver’s Jamie at home episode at TLC (Travel and living channel) his tuna recipe looked so yummy it made me crave, those ruby colored tuna made me salivate. Yes, I love Japanese food, specially raw fish just not the sea urchin and octopus.
Anyway, so for dinner yesterday, I met up with the BF to have a dinner date, we were supposed to have dinner at Le Couer, but then I remembered they have Teriyaki boy at Alpha land. Below are pictures of what we had:

Right after this photo, my camera shut down

For appetizer
163978_1660548886373_1616721377_1541497_565514_n                                             Salmon sushi 195
   166672_1660549446387_1616721377_1541499_1635556_n                                                 Yakisoba
167640_1660544126254_1616721377_1541477_7006773_n                         Dynamite maki
The salmon sushi was yummy, the yakisoba noodles looked like instant noodles, but doesn’t taste like instant noodles at all. It was pretty good and was served hot at the table, I just forgot the price.
The dynamite maki was freakingly SPICY, I love spicy but not for maki’s, even the sauce that came with , I didn’t like at all, it empowers the taste of the tuna. We weren’t able to finish the whole order of the maki. We are so not ordering this again.
“Main course”
164162_1660548206356_1616721377_1541495_6251621_n                                        Ika fry P200+

165223_1660548486363_1616721377_1541496_7079166_n                                                  Tonkatsu curry

BF and I ordered the curry fry, the servings were huge. My order was the Ika fry, tasted like usual fried squid, but at least it was good, the curry sauce was yummy. I can tell the BF liked his order too since he finished the whole bowl.

And for the dessert

 Curts Yogurt
163164_1660549806396_1616721377_1541500_1704102_n
BF’s order –yogurt with everything chocolate

167239_1660550366410_1616721377_1541505_4173675_n                                 My order – candy coated chocolate and blueberry toppings

I loved the yogurt, total costs P247 for just a regular sized one. But that was because BF ordered the special toppings, I had the regular which was 20 toppings each. The regular sized cup costs P78. BF only ate the toppings, which made me happy since I had more yogurt ice cream, yum~ thanks babe ;)

Our total bill for the food was P1,100

What can I say about Teriyaki boy?

The servings were quite huge, so for the price maybe it was worth it. Their rice is definitely not authentic japanese rice, what I like about the place is that, there’s many choices to choose from. The curry ika fry was yummy, I know I ate something similar to that in Rai Rai Ken. The prices seemed similar too.
My verdict? 3.3/5 spoons – definitely going back for the ika fry

*all photos were taken by BF with his Samsung ES30, my camera’s battery finally got exhausted (drained).

date                                                       2 happy and full couple  - burps~

  Till then!
