Tech talk: CD-R King Wireless router review

My man is the type who likes giving gifts that would serve a purpose for long term. I wanted a play dough cake maker and I thought, he’d get me that – hehe. But he said, when I’m done with the play dough, what’s next? And with that, he gifted me a router instead. Nonetheless, I love it! I can download apps non stop.

Android Fancy Widget + A bundle of Joy

Techie talk for today’s post! I’m definitely loving my Samsung Galaxy Ace and was really glad to have not replaced it with the Galaxy Y. When Martin showed me a pink version of the Y, I was seriously considering in buying it. Just because it’s pink. But he managed to talk me out of it because it was a dumb idea because it’s a bit of a downgrade from my phone. (spur of the moment sickness) hehe

Tech talk: Cats are taking over the world!

Hello everyone! For today’s post is another app review. I was contemplating whether to have a separate blog for my techie talks, or maybe just mix it with my blog. I asked Martin, and as usual he gave valid reasons to just mix it here, my friend Stacy also said the same thing.

I’ve been OC lately for customizing my phone, so I decided to download new widgets and apps and I’m quite happy with what I have now. By the way, upon upgrading the froyo to gingerbread, I forgot to mention (though it may not be a big of a deal for some)  that there was one additional wallpaper available and it looks like this (refer to image below)

The list of things that I downloaded were the following:
  • Battery widget
  • App folder (similar to the IOS)
  • Color note
  • Bathing cat
  • Cat’s memo
  • Cool SMS tones and
  • Cat sound ringtones
Here’s how my phones UI looks like now:

But for this post I will be reviewing the two cat apps. First up, Bathing cat, now this is not my first time to download the widget. I am always cramming for space, so I had to prioritize which of the important ones that I needed for my phone to stay. Well, I still am cramming for space until now, but then what the heck! I miss the whiney, vain cat in my screen – haha!

Basically, bathing cat is a battery widget that informs you of bath levels (battery status), only much more fun and can be irritating at times (LOL). This  widget is definitely for the cat lovers out there.
With my recent update, the battery performance has changed a lot, but having this app drains the battery a little faster, but can still last the whole day.

 Here’s what you can customize…

You can choose from different styles of cats, tubs and background. It is also like a tamagotchi, which you have to take care of or else he’ll complain if you don’t.

That’s about if for Bathing cat! Next up is the Cat’s memo.

 Cat’s memo

Now this is my favorite app, this takes memo’s to a cuter level! You can set it up in the shortcut option for your home screen. This size is a 1x2

DSCN4276

While the photo below is 1x4

DSCN4278

I like them both, so I put 2 kitties in my home screen. Best of all you can also choose from different kinds of cats and also add a photo to your note.

DSCN4287

There are only 6 cats to choose from and only 3 notepads, which in my opinion is not bad. Though, I hope if there’s an update they will add more cats and more colored notepads to choose from.

Definitely enjoying the cat’s memo! Both apps are free (yes, I’m cheap ass), one of the reasons why I love the android too – hehe.

I hope this is a good reason for you to get an android phone, specially cat lovers out there, hehe.

  Till then!

Tech talk: How to upgrade your Samsung ACE froyo to gingerbread OS

I was told that upgrading my OS is not a walk in the park, so I did my research and found most of the articles very complicated. Reading about the ODIN software and seeing different links intimidated me. So I did a more extensive research and found a video tutorial, using a Samsung Kies to upgrade the firmware.

Before you could upgrade your phone’s OS, you have to upgrade your Samsung Kies first. Since mine is outdated, there were two updates which was fairly easy to do and took less than 30 minutes.

After such, when you connect your device, Samsung Kies will prompt a message for a new firmware upgrade for your device

DSCN4258

Initially there will be a warning when you click the firmware upgrade button which will look like the image below.

DSCN4261

I was still cautious to back up my music files, and was ready to re-download all my apps again. But surprisingly, after the update, my music, photos and my apps were still there. It took me around 30 minutes for the firmware update.

DSCN4264

After a few minutes, I saw my phone downloading different codes which I wasn’t able to take a picture of because it was scanning very fast. You will then see a downloading message in your phone screen (refer image below)

Surprisingly, it was very easy to do. If a noob like me can do it, so can you Winking smile

Yes, I’m on Gingerbread baby!

Tech talk: Galaxy Ace gingerbread update

The Android is the best thing that happened to mobile phone (in my honest opinion that is, I know some HARDCORE MAC fans out there who would disagree). But anyway, I am not here to compare between the two, as they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Anyway, I’ve had my Samsung Galaxy Ace with me for 5 months now and I’m very much happy with my purchase. But things got more better, I know it’s rather quite late, but I just want to share how gingerbread is way better than the froyo (android OS).

Honestly, I thought I was content with having a froyo, I also had this impression that if I update my previous OS to Gingerbread, all my apps will be deleted. Which is one the the major reasons why I didn’t want to update. I was wrong! dead wrong!

My man is finally part of the android family! A few days ago, he bought the Samsung Galaxy Y (young) at Parksquare Makati. Which is also another reason why I was more convinced to upgrade my OS.

So, what is it about the Gingerbread update?

  • A BETTER, WAAAY BETTER BATTERY LIFE BABY! In all caps, one of the weaknesses of the froyo is the battery life. Gingerbread made it better! Battery is a huge deal for me, and I’m pretty much sure same with you guys.
  •   As for UI (user interface), there were a few changes, better than nothing. Besides, it’s a fresh change from what I’ve been used to.
  • WIFI is much better (so far no crashing) and I was able to detect other networks, that the froyo was not able to detect before.
  • Faster and I mean FASTER performance, even playing my new favorite game Zombie city II vs. boss is smoother
  • Improved copy and paste function
  • A new system app called downloads (green icon)

That’s the PROS, sadly, there are two functions that I miss about Froyo

  • Froyo has this message theme which you can choose from – default, gloss, memo, notepad, etc. Now it seems, that function is not available for gingerbread (?)
  • I can’t seem to screen capture anymore :(

 Here are comparison photo’s:

  •   Shutting down your phone:

Normally, it only has 2 options now it has 4

Tech talk: Android games–Zombie City II vs. Boss

I’ve been looking for other interesting games in the android market lately, as I’m bored as hell with angry birds, aqua pets and some games that required to be connected in the internet (major turn off). I’ve recently downloaded Zombie II vs. Boss and it’s pretty interesting (for now).

  ABOUT…

It’s an endless running action game, where you get to kill zombies using different kinds of guns. You will reach a certain point where you will meet the boss, but eventually the boss fight never ends. Basically, the main point of the game is to go as far as you can – that’s it!

 GRAPHICS…

Well, graphics is not that bad really (refer to photos and video below)

  GAME PLAY?…

My phone is a Samsung galaxy ACE with only 800MHz, there are a few times in the game that I would experience some slow issues, which is better than experiencing a FORCE CLOSE issue right?

  FILE SIZE…

   564KB

 Overall…

Regardless that it’s an endless shooting game, I still think it’s pretty “hardcore” ., besides it’s a free game! hehe~

Here are photos..

Tech talk: Geeking over my Galaxy ACE~

And finally! In my very hands, I now own the Samsung Galaxy ACE!

Originally, I wanted the Huawei Ideos or the LG Optimus ME, (which are) if you want an affordable Android phone. It’s not that bad, but what I didn’t expect was how the screen would look like. I thought all were the same, and I got used to M’s Itouch. He said, if I wanted an android that is close to having the Itouch’s crisp screen resolution, I’d have to go with a mid range one – and so, came the ACE!

I bought mine a few days ago, M accompanied me to Megamall at Cyberzone. I got mine for P13,750 which includes a 2GB SD card, screen protector and a jelly case.

    Here’s what’s inside the box:

DSCN3318

It comes with 2 discs, 1 quick guide manual, an extra back cover (white), usb cable, headset and the charger (charger not in pic sorry). And here’s a comparison in width with M’s Itouch

DSCN3316

           I would’ve preferred a sleek gadget but this time I don’t mind.

The ACE comes with a 5MP camera with LED flash, here are sample photos

The camera is not that bad, it has auto focus already which makes the job easier. More reviews to come soon.

By the way here are the basic specs in case you’re curious:

I’m still geeking on my new phone and of course, being  my baby, I want the best screen protector for it, I had an InvisiShield installed for only P800 (front only)
